FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - B
Good Shepherd Sunday
Welcome to Lutheran Church! We thank God that you are here, and pray that God's Word will speak to your heart today. Visitors, we hope you will join us often as we gather around the Word. We want to know how we may serve you, so please introduce yourselves to those around you and to the Pastor. May God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – bless our time with him and with one another here in this House dedicated to his saving Name.
Pastor: The Lord is risen!
ALL: He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
THE PRELUDE –
PASTORAL GREETING
Theme of Our Worship: Sheep in the Good Shepherd's Flock
OPENING HYMN – Now All the Vault of Heaven Resounds – LSB, #465
Now all the vault of heav'n resounds In praise of love that still abounds:
"Christ has triumphed! He is living!"
Sing, choirs of angels loud and clear! Repeat their song of glory here!
"Christ has triumphed! He is living!" Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Eternal is the gift he brings, Therefore our heart with rapture sings:
"Christ has triumphed! He is living!"
Now still he comes to give us life And by his presence stills all strife.
Christ has triumphed! He is living! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Oh, fill us, Lord, with dauntless love; Set heart and will on things above
That we conquer through Your triumph.
Grant grace sufficient for life's day That by our lives we truly say:
"Christ has triumphed! He is living! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!"
Adoring praises now we bring And with the heav'nly blessed sing:
"Christ has triumphed! Alleluia!"
Be to the Father and our Lord, To Spirit blest, most holy God,
All the glory, Never ending! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
ALL: Amen! Our risen Lord has made him known to us.

HYMN OF THE DAY – The King of Love My Shepherd Is – LSB, #709
The King of Love my shepherd is, Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am His And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow, My ransomed soul He leadeth,
And, where the verdant pastures grow, With food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, But yet in love He sought me
And on His shoulders gently laid And home rejoicing brought me.
In death's dark vale I fear no ill With Thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spreadst a table in my sight; Thine unction grace bestoweth;
And, oh, what transport of delight From Thy pure chalice floweth.
And so through all the length of days Thy goodness faileth never.
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise Within Thy house forever.
THE SERMON:
[If Holy Communion is not being celebrated, continue with THE APOSTLES CREED and the order of service that follows it. It is detailed at the end of this service.]
THE NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; begotten of his Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made; being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church; I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
(The Prayer of the Church formatted as you will receive the Services:)

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION – God Bless America
God bless America, Land that I love;
Stand beside her, and guide her, Through the night with the light from above.
From the mountains To the prairies To the oceans White with foam,
God bless America, My home sweet home.
From the mountains To the prairies To the oceans White with foam,
God bless America, My home sweet home.
God bless America, My home sweet home.
THE VOLUNTARY –
AN OFFERTORY – Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful – LSB, #955
Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord, and fill to the brim our cup of blessing. Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown, that we may be fed with the Bread of Life. Gather the hopes and dreams of all; unite them with the prayers we offer now. Grace our Table with Your presence, and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.
REGARDING HOLY COMMUNION. Members of sister Lutheran congregations are, of course, invited to join us at the Lord's Table. Others are requested to consult with the Pastor before communing with us the first time. In this way you will help us be responsible in our administration of the Sacrament – and you, in turn, will be blessed as you commune with us.
NOTE: In the center of each communion tray are a few glasses with grape juice wine for those who are on alcohol restrictive medications or wish to abstain from alcohol for personal reasons.
+ + + THE HOLY COMMUNION + + +
Pastor: The Lord be with you.
ALL: And also with you.
Pastor: Lift up your hearts.
ALL: We lift them to the Lord.
Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
ALL: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Pastor: We do lift our hearts to You in thanks and praise, O Lord, as we come to our Holy Communion in Your Body and Blood. With grateful hearts we pray together the Church's Table Prayer, in the words You taught:
ALL: Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen.
THE WORDS OF OUR LORD
Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
ALL: And also with you.
BEFORE WE COMMUNE – The Agnus Dei – LSB, Page 163
Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, You take away the sin of the world; grant us peace.
THE HOLY COMMUNION
HYMN – Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Savior – LSB, #627
Jesus Christ, our blessed Savior, Turned away God's wrath forever.
By His bitter grief and woe He saved us from the evil foe.
As His pledge of love undying, He, this precious food supplying,
Gives His body with the bread, And with the wine the blood He shed.
(Women) Praise the Father, who from heaven To His own this food has given,
Who, to mend what we have done, Gave into death His only Son.
Agony and bitter labor Were the cost of God's high favor.
Do not come if you suppose You need not Him who died and rose.
(Men) If your heart this truth professes, And your mouth your sin confesses,
You will be your Savior's guest, and by His Banquet truly blest.
Let this food your faith so nourish That by love its fruit may flourish
And your neighbor learn from you How much God's wondrous love can do.
HYMN – The Lord My Shepherd Is – Tune: LSB, #863
The Lord my Shepherd is! I shall be unafraid;
He makes me down to lie In pastures green and shade.
He leads me by the waters still According to his gracious will,
His ev'ry promise to fulfill.
The Lord my Shepherd is! And though through death's dark vale
I may be made to walk, His mercies shall not fail.
Though days be filled with man-y'a tear His rod and staff are ever near,
They comfort me; I have no fear.
The Lord my Shepherd is! He spreads for me his feast,
Anoints my head with oil, Though of his fold I'm least.
Goodness and mercy follow me; His loving kindness here I see
And in his house I'll ever be.
The Lord my Shepherd is! To God all glory be:
To Father and to Son And Spirit, One-in-Three.
To him I'll sing my songs of praise; To him thanksgiving ever raise;
The Lord my Shepherd is always.

A SONG OF THANKSGIVING – Thank the Lord – LSB, page 164

Pastor: Blessed Lord, Your Son, our Good Shepherd, has made us sheep in his flock, and thus has called us into Your family as Your children. As a result, we live day by day under Your forgiving love.

As we live in Christ, may we enjoy a relationship with one another that will bless us and glorify him. We pray in the Name of him who is our Brother and our Savior, Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Perfect us in all his will, And preserve us day and night!

THE APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Father in heaven, we again praise You for the assurance that is ours because we are able to hear and to say the Good News: The Good Shepherd laid down his life for us!
ALL: We truly want nothing more than to walk through life with him beside us, guiding us along the Way that will be a blessing to us and to all around us.
Pastor: Because the Good Shepherd laid down his life for us, we know we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
ALL: Through Your Holy Spirit, help us to see that we, as affluent American Christians, have more than enough of the world's goods, so we will be ready to open our hearts and our hands to brothers and sister in need.
Pastor: We come to You with some of them in mind. We ask Your healing and help for those in time of illness or distress. And we praise You with those who are celebrating good gifts from Your hand of love. We name before You . . . . In our hearts we commend to Your care also these who are near and dear to each of us . . . . Hold all for whom we pray in Your hand of love care.
ALL: We live day by day under Your blessing, Father. We are sheep in the Good Shepherd's flock.
Pastor: We join with Christians everywhere on this Lord's Day in the words Jesus taught us to pray:
ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
