TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST - C
Welcome to Lutheran Church! We thank God you are here and pray that God’s Word will speak to your heart today. Visitors, we hope you will join us often as we gather around the Word. We want to know how we may serve you, so please join our members in filling out an attendance card. Pass it to the center aisle – to be collected by the ushers during the Hymn of the Day. Also, please introduce yourself to those around you and to the Pastor. Feel free to use a Prayer Request Card so the Pastor can include your concern in the Prayer of the Church.
To help parents of young children, the congregation provides Child Care during the Sunday morning services. You certainly are welcome and encouraged to let us serve your family in this way. If you are not sure where the Child Care Room is, just ask an usher.
THE PRELUDE –
PASTORAL GREETING
Theme of Our Worship: Never Give Up!
OPENING HYMN – If God Himself Be for Us – LW, #407 (Tune: LW, #322)
If God himself be for us We may a host defy;
For when we pray, before us Our foes, confounded, fly.
If Christ, our Head and Master, Befriends us from above,
What foe or what disaster Can drive us from his love?
(Women:) Let’s build on this foundation, That Jesus and his blood
Alone are our salvation, The true, eternal good.
Without him all that pleases Will vain and empty prove.
The gifts we have from Jesus Alone are worth our love.
(Men:) Christ Jesus is our Splendor, Our Sun, our Light, alone;
Were he not our Defender Before God’s awesome throne,
We never should find favor And mercy in his sight,
But he destroyed forever The darkness with his light.
To us his joy he’s bringing; He wipes away our tears.
Life now is mirth and singing, And shall be through the years.
The Sun that cheers our spirit Is Jesus Christ, our King!
His heav’n we shall inherit, So we rejoice and sing!
Pastor: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
ALL: Amen! He is with us today and every day.
(Confession and Absolution formatted as you will receive the Services:)

A SONG OF PRAISE – This is the Feast of Victory – LW, page 161

Women: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.
ALL: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Men: Power, riches, wisdom and strength, and honor, blessing, and glory are his.
ALL: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Women: Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing, honor, glory, and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.
ALL: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Men: For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia!
ALL: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Pastor: The Lord be with you.
ALL: And also with you.
Pastor: Let us pray together to the Lord.
ALL: O Lord, in Your wondrous mercy You have cleansed us of our sins by the once-for-all atoning sacrifice of Your Son. Grant that we may live in daily awareness of Your grace, rejoice in Your forgiveness, and enjoy Your gift of peace. Thus may we serve You with quiet minds, with hearts secure in Your love. We pray in the Name of him who bought us to be Your own, Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

HYMN OF THE DAY – How Firm a Foundation – LW, #411
How firm a foundation, O saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in his excellent Word.
What more can he say than to you he has said,
Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?
(Women:) "Fear not, I am with you; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am your God and will still give you aid.
I'll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
(Men:) "When through fiery trials your pathway will lie,
My grace, all-sufficient, will be your supply.
The flames will not hurt you; I only design
Your dross to consume and your gold to refine.
"Throughout all of life you my people will prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love.
And then, when gray hairs will your temples adorn,
Like lambs you will still in my bosom be borne."
THE SERMON:
[If Holy Communion is not being celebrated, continue with THE APOSTLES CREED and the order of service that follows it. It is detailed at the end of this service.]
THE NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; begotten of his Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made; being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church; I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER – Our Father, You, from Heaven Above – Tune, LW, #375
Our Father, You, from heav’n above, Have turned toward us Your face of love,
Bless us, Your children, with Your Name; Its holy wonders now proclaim;
Your kingdom and Your will alone To us now here make known.
Give us this day our daily bread As ev’ry life by You is fed;
Forgive our sins’ enormities As we forgive our enemies;
Let no temptation us betray Nor evil win the day.
Yours is the kingdom, Yours alone The constant praise before Your throne;
All pow’rs and all dominions, Lord, Are subject to Your mighty word;
All glory Yours! By every tongue Now let Your praise be sung!

THE HOLY COMMUNION
HYMN – For All the Saints – LW, #191
For all the saints who from their labors rest,
All who by faith before the world confessed,
Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
(Men:) Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress, and their Might;
Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight;
Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light.
Oh, may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold,
Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old
And win with them the victor’s crown of gold.
(Women:) Oh, blest communion, fellowship divine,
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast,
Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
HYMN – All Depends on Our Possessing -- LW, #415
All depends on our possessing God's free grace and constant blessing
Though all earthly wealth depart.
Those who trust with faith unshaken By their God are not forsaken
And will keep a dauntless heart.
He who to this day has fed us And to many joys has led us
To his promise will be true.
He who did so gently school us, He who daily guides and rules us
Blesses us each day anew.
Well he knows what best to grant us. All the longing hopes that haunt us,
Joy and sorrow, have their day.
We shall doubt his wisdom never; As God wills, so be it ever;
We commit to him our way.
A SONG OF THANKSGIVING – Thank the Lord – LW, page 173
ALL: Thank the Lord and sing his praise; tell everyone what he has done.
Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and proudly bear his name.
He recalls his promises and leads his people forth in joy
With shouts of thanksgiving. Alleluia, Alleluia!

THE OFFERING
THE VOLUNTARY –
AN OFFERTORY – Create in Me – LW, Page 175
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your free Spirit.
THE PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.
Father in heaven, we thank and praise You for the grace You have shown to us in Your Son, our Savior Jesus.
ALL: You have numbered us among Your saints. Grant that when our Lord returns in glory he will indeed find faith on earth – also in us.
Pastor: Grant us the power of Your Holy Spirit so we may persevere in prayer, devote ourselves to Your Word, and make use of opportunities to witness to Your Son and his salvation.
ALL: Like Jacob of old, may we hold onto You in faith, whatever the circumstances, until You give us the guidance and blessing You have promised to give.
Pastor: In gratitude to You for Your faithfulness, we name before You those from our congregation whom, in the past year, You have called into eternal life.…. Silently, in our hearts, we remember also other departed friends and loved ones who have reached that goal.…. Keep us all faithful to the point of death, so we may receive the crown of life.
ALL: We praise You for all who have been Your saintly influence in our lives, leading us by word and example to life in Your Son Jesus. Enable us to be a similar influence in the lives of those around us.
Pastor: We again bring some friends and loved ones to You, seeking Your help and healing for those in times of difficulty, and rejoicing with those who are celebrating circumstances of blessing. We name before You . . . . Hold them always in Your loving care as they look to You for guidance and blessing.
ALL: Bestow Your continuing grace on all of us, so we may respond in love to Your love, devote our ears and minds to Your Word, dedicate our tongues to prayer and praise and witness, and live our lives to Your glory.
Pastor: Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend ourselves and all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ our Lord. With grateful hearts we join in singing The Lord’s Prayer:
