OPENING HYMN – God Brought Me to This Time and Place – Tune: LSB, #556

God brought me to this time and place  Surrounded by His favor.

He guarded all my nights and days,  His kindness did not waver.

His peace as sentinel He gave  My spirit's health and joy to save.

To this day He has blessed me.

All honor, thanks, and praise to You,  O Father, God of heaven,

For mercies ev’ry morning new,  Which You have freely given.

Inscribe this on my memory:  My Lord has done great things for me!

To this day he has helped me.

Oh, help me ever, God of grace,  Through ev’ry time and season,

At ev’ry turn, in ev’ry place – Redemptive love the reason.

Through joy and pain and final breath  By Jesus’ life and saving death

Help me as You have helped me.

Pastor:   In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

HYMN OF THE DAY – O Holy Spirit, Enter In – LSB, #913

O Holy Spirit, enter in,  And in our hearts Your work begin,

Your dwelling place now make us

Sun of the Soul, O Light Divine,  Around and in us brightly shine,

To joy and gladness wake us.

That we  May be  Truly living  To You giving  Prayer unceasing,

And in love be still increasing.

Give to Your Word impressive pow'r,  That in our hearts from this good hour

As fire it may be glowing.

That in true Christian unity  We faithful witnesses may be,

Your glory ever showing

Hear us,  Cheer us,  By Your teaching  Let our preaching  And our labor

Praise You, Lord, and serve our neighbor.

O Mighty Rock, O Source of Life,  Let Your dear Word, in doubt and strife,

In us be strongly burning,

That we be faithful unto death,  And live in love and holy faith,

From You true wisdom learning.

Your grace  And peace  On us shower,  By Your power  Christ confessing.

Let us see our Savior's blessing!

THE SERMON:

[If Holy Communion is not being celebrated, continue with THE APOSTLES CREED and the order of service that follows it.  It is detailed at the end of this service.]

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; begotten of his Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made; being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.  He suffered and was buried.  And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.  And he will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.  And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church; I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.  Amen.

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION – God Bless Our Native Land – LSB, #967

God bless our native land;  Firm may she ever stand  Through storm and night.

When the wild tempests rave,  Ruler of wind and wave,

Do Thou our country save  By Thy great might.

Our fathers' God to Thee,  Author of liberty,  To Thee we sing.

Long may our land be bright  With freedom's holy light,

Protect us by Thy might,  Great God, our King!

AN OFFERTORY What Shall I Render to the Lord – LSB, Page 159

What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits to me?  I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call on the Name of the Lord.  I will take the cup of salvation and will call on the Name of the Lord.  I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the Lord's House, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

REGARDING HOLY COMMUNION.   Members of sister Lutheran congregations are, of course, invited to join us at the Lord’s Table.  Others are requested to consult with the Pastor before communing with us the first time.  In this way you will help us be responsible in our administration of the Sacrament – and you, in turn, will be blessed as you commune with us.

NOTE:   In the center of each communion tray are a few glasses with grape juice wine for those who are on alcohol restrictive medications or wish to abstain from alcohol for personal reasons.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of pow'r and might:  Heav'n and earth are full of Your glory.  Hosanna in the highest!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest!

Pastor: Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on us, and have given Your only-begotten Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life.

ALL:  Send now Your Holy Spirit into our hearts that he may establish in us a living faith. Prepare us joyfully to remember our Redeemer and faithfully to receive him as he comes to us in his body and blood.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

THE HOLY COMMUNION

HYMN Jesus Comes Today with Healing – LSB, #620

Jesus comes today with healing,  Knocking at my door, appealing,

Off'ring pardon, grace, and peace.

He Himself makes preparation,  And I hear His invitation:

"Come and taste the blessed feast."

Christ Himself, the Priest presiding,  Yet in bread and wine abiding

In this Holy Sacrament.

Gives the bread of life, once broken,  And the cup, the precious token

Of His sacred covenant.

Under bread and wine, though lowly,  I receive the Savior holy,

Blood and body giv'n for me.

Very Lamb of God from heaven,  Who to bitter death was given,

Hung upon the curs-ed tree.

Let me praise God's boundless favor,  Whose own Feast of Love I savor,

Bidden by His gracious call.

Wedding garments He provides me,  With a robe of white He hides me,

Fits me for the royal hall.

HYMNO Lord of Light, Who Made the Stars – Tune: LSB, #344

O Lord of light, who made the stars,  O Dawn, by whom we see the way,

O Christ, Redeemer of the world:  Come now to bless us as we pray.

!Women)  In lowliness You came on earth  To rescue us from Satan’s snares;

O wondrous Love, You healed our wounds  By taking on our mortal cares!

To pay the debt we owed for sin  Your painful cross was made the price;

From bless-ed Mary’s womb You came,  A victim pure for sacrifice.

Lord, now You reign, the King of kings,  Adored in heav’nly majesty!

Your holy Name is held in awe  From pole to pole and sea to sea!

(Men)   Lord, come, assert Your Kingdom here In all those whom You call Your own.

We joyously invite You, Lord:  Build in our hearts Your kingly throne!

Great Judge of all, on earth’s last day  In mercy look upon our plight;

Rise up to take us by Your grace  From this dark world to heav’nly light.

A SONG OF THANKSGIVING – Thank the Lord – LSB, page 164

Thank the Lord and sing his praise; tell everyone what he has done.  Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and proudly bear his name.  He recalls his promises and leads his people forth in joy  With shouts of thanksgiving.  Alleluia, Alleluia!

Pastor:  Heavenly Father, You have refreshed and renewed our hearts through the saving gift of the Body and Blood of our Lord.

ALL:   Continue to bless us with Your grace day by day, so we may rejoice also in our Lord’s rule in us and willingly serve him from the heart in ways that will glorify You and will bless us and those around us.  Amen.

Pastor:  The Lord bless you and keep you.  The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.  The Lord look on you with favor, and give you peace.

ALL:   Amen!  His gracious rule in us will bless us throughout the week ahead.

CLOSING HYMNInvited, Lord, by Boundless Grace – Tune: LSB, 883

Invited, Lord, by boundless grace,  We stood as guests before Your face;

As Host You spread no common food;  You gave Your Body and Your Blood.

Now let us all with joy depart,  With full assurance in our heart.

For such communion, Lord, with You,  We offer You ourselves anew.

When You shall in Your glory come  To gather all Your people home,

Then, dressed in robes of righteousness,  May we Your Name forever bless.

THE APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

THE PRAYER OF THE CHURCH

Pastor:  Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.

Father in heaven, we thank You have again spoken Your Word of truth in Christ to us, and have assured us of Your loving forgiveness.

ALL:   We rejoice in this, for we know well that if it were to depend just on us we and our children would know the blessings of life in Your family.

Pastor:  Lead us, then, to be serious about Your call – to devote ourselves eagerly to the new life Your Son has won for us.

ALL:   Enable us to respond with the enthusiasm of Zacchaeus, when salvation came to him as Jesus' surprising gift.

Pastor: We pray that for his sake You will continually count us worthy of Your calling and will fulfill Your purposes for us in our daily living.

ALL:  Then, by Your grace, our faith will grow more and more, and our love for one another will steadily increase.

Pastor: We ask Your blessing for those whose influence is widespread, our leaders in Church and nation.

ALL:  Make them men and women of honesty and integrity, so they may avoid the tendency to exalt themselves, but always devote themselves to the true welfare of those whom they serve.

Pastor: We remember our children and grandchildren in our prayers, and also bring others to You for Your blessing – some who look to You in time of difficulty, and others who rejoice in time of celebration.  We name before You . . . .  In our hearts we commend to Your care also these who are near and dear to each of us . . . .Hold them safe in Your hand of love.

ALL:   Strengthen their faith and ours – and lead us all to live our lives as disciples of Your Son should live.

Pastor:   Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy through Jesus Christ our Lord.  We join them in looking to You as we pray together:

ALL:   Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.
